Laser Cutting

Laser cutting is a CNC machining process used to create a precise cut edge. Sterling Precision Machining, Inc. is proud to be the first in the Lowcountry to offer laser cutting services via the Amada Ensis 3015 Fiber Optic Laser. This impressive, high speed laser cutting system can maintain an accuracy of 0.004” over its entire cutting range. The speed at which the fiber laser can cut through materials up to 1’’ thick allows for a much greater throughput while maintaining an incredibly high degree of accuracy.

Manual Machining

While CNC machining equipment is controlled by a computer, manual machining involves operating the equipment by hand.  There are many types of projects that can benefit from a manual machining process. Sterling Precision Machining, Inc. is among only a handful of machine shops that still offer manual machining services. Large turning capability of up to 39 inches in diameter and 24 feet long.

We utilize a variety of manual mills, lathes, grinding machines and other manual machining equipment to manufacture parts. The lathes and mills are all equipped with digital read outs (DRO) to ensure accuracy and repeatability.

Plasma Arc Cutting

Sterling Precision Machining, Inc. utilizes a Komatsu CNC plasma arc cutting system allowing a much faster cutting speed on materials up to 1’’ thick that allow for a little more room on the tolerances. Our cutting area for this machine can accommodate 6 foot wide and up to 20 feet long.

Waterjet Cutting

Sterling Precision Machining, Inc. utilizes a Flow IFB abrasive waterjet cutting system which allows us to cut into various materials. Abrasive waterjets use ultra-high-pressure water, 60,000 psi, with an entrained garnet mixture to provide a very effective cutting media.

The cold process does not create a heat-affected zone. This zone will be found in parts cut with either laser or plasma systems and can have a dramatic effect on any processes performed after cutting on final application.

Our 2 waterjet cutting systems have the capability of maintaining tolerances of 0.010” throughout the cut, with no taper along the cut edge. Our waterjet cutting process can be performed on almost any material up to 6’ by 12‘ and 10” thick including paper, aluminum, steel, solid carbide and more.
